DharmaDanza: Moving with Intention, Embodying the Six Perfections, with Paula Jardim - Fri 25th to Sun 27th July 2025
Date: Fri 25th, Sat 26th & Sun 27th July 2025
Times: Starting with a welcome on Friday evening, closing Sunday afternoon
Format: Residential retreat, onsite
Overview
Welcome to this retreat, where we will explore the transformative power of the six perfections (aka paramitas / far-reaching attitudes) through movement and body-based practices. These attitudes are more than just mental concepts—they are the pathways to liberation, and serve as antidotes to the challenges we face in life. Cultivating these powerful mindsets can help us navigate life's obstacles with greater ease and wisdom. This process of integrating the six perfections can help us transform negative emotions, unlock our potentials, and offer our greatest support to others. Rather than conceptualise them the focus will be on exploring ways of tasting these six paramitas through movement, breath, and stillness.
Dāna: Abundant Giving – The open-hearted willingness to share and contribute
Sīla: Ethical Self-Discipline – Choosing actions that promote happiness
Kṣānti: Patience – Staying calm and centred in difficult situations
Vīrya: Perseverance – The courageous determination to keep moving forward despite challenges.
Samādhi: Concentration – Cultivating focus and mental clarity in the present moment.
Prajñā: Wisdom – Seeing things as they are.
About the Teacher
Ana Paula Jardim
My journey into Buddhism began as a teenager when I stumbled upon the Four Noble Truths while browsing a book in a bookstore. At the time I was studying at the Gregorian Chant Institute, where I have spent six years learning to read the neumes written in square notation by medieval monks.
In 1990, I discovered the Tibetan tradition and began attending meditation classes at a Nyingma centre. Years later, I studied with Geshe Thinley and Geshe Tashi, and completed the Foundation of Buddhism Thought course and the Lam Rim Chen Mo study program, both within the Geluk tradition. I also became involved in dharma translation for the Berzin Archives and spent six years facilitating meditation sessions at the Bristol Lam Rim Centre. Additionally, I offered meditation sessions at a hostel for homeless women, and served as a trustee for Lam Rim Wilts & Glos Buddhists. I am deeply grateful for the richness, depth, and power of the Buddhist practices; and now I’m exploring creative ways of feeling the dharma and embodying the teachings through the moving body.
