About the Teacher

Land of Joy

Khenchen Rinpoche is currently based at Land of Joy Retreat Centre based in Northumberland National Park, where he is supporting the spiritual activities of the centre and completing his English studies. Connected through Geshe Losel via Drepung Monastery, he kindly accepted an invitation to visit Lam Rim Wales.

Biography

Phara Khenchen Rinpoche is recognised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the reincarnation of the highly realised and respected Buddhist teacher, Khensur Pema Gyaltsen.

In 1989, at the age of three, he was smuggled out of Tibet to be lovingly cared for and educated in Drepung Monastery, South India. After the 25 year tutelage of his beloved teacher, Geshe Wangchen, he achieved the Geshe Degree; followed by a year at Gyumed Tantric College.

Rinpoche is well known for his cheerful, relaxed, kind and humble personality, as well as his profound and powerful spiritual qualities.

Lam Rim Wales Connection

Khenchen Rinpoche’s predecessor, Khensur Pema Gyaltsen (1908 – 1985). came to Lam Rim Wales in 1984 to give an initiation and later stayed for a few months before heading back to India.

Khensur Pema Gyaltsen was a highly realised and respected Buddhist master. He was instrumental in re-establishing the Tibetan monastic education system in exile and was former Abbot of Drepung Monastery, the same monastery as the late Ven. Geshe Damcho, former spiritual director of Lam Rim.
