Lam Rim Chenmo (Online) - 15th May - 24th August 2023
Semester Five
Starting 15th May - 24th August 2023
About
The Lam Rim Chenmo (Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path of Enlightenment), a masterwork of Je Tsongkhapa completed in 1402, is one of the legendary works of our human heritage, and has provided a strong foundation to countless practitioners over the last six hundred years. Despite its antiquity, the living tradition of Lam Rim has remained as relevant today (in this technological, connected world) as it was on the mountains and plateaus of 14th century Tibet.
“Of the many works of the Tibetan master Tsongkhapa, none compares in terms of popularity and breadth of influence with his Lam Rim Chenmo, which has been treasured by practitioners and scholars alike for centuries.” — HH 14th Dalai Lama
The teaching is presented to bring Lam Rim into our lives. It is for those of us who are determined to make a difference to the world by walking the Buddhist path to enlightenment, bringing meaning to our lives and those around us. The text is extensive and, through it’s many quotes and citations from both Sutra and authoritative Indian commentaries, it offers a beautiful journey that covers all the main points of Buddhist practice; finishing with an astonishing and climactic presentation of the practitioners access to emptiness. Not only does the Lam Rim tradition serve as a key that unlocks all realisations but it is also the gateway to all the methods of Himalayan Buddhism: Sutra and Tantra alike; indeed, it informed so much of Ven. Geshe Damcho Yonten’s personal practice that he named all his Buddhist Centres after it.
There will be short meditations, as well as an initial and final meditation for each session.
Teacher
Our teacher will be Ben Griffin. Ben teaches in an accessible and natural style which, while not being particularly suitable for those who have only an academic interest in Buddhism, hopes to provide inspiration and encouragement to those of us that choose to engage in the path to Buddhahood.
